Colonel Jan McCarthy (Ret’d)

Colonel Jan McCarthy (Ret’d) trained at Box Hill and District Hospital Melbourne and Midwifery at Queen Mothers Hospital Glasgow Scotland. Joined the Army in 1966 and appointed to Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps and had various postings to Military and Camp Hospitals including Staff appointments in Canberra and Melbourne within the Nursing Directorate.

Posted to 1st Australian Field Hospital Vietnam 1968-69 and Singapore as Matron ANZUK Woodlands Hospital 1972. Completed Diploma Nursing Administration 1971 at Royal College of Nursing Australia, Melbourne, awarded the Associate Royal Red Cross in 1982 and appointed Matron in Chief/Director Royal Australian Army Nursing Corps 1988-1992.

Since retirement has served on various committees related to Veterans and local hospital and aged care facility in Seymour, Victoria.
