Over 70 young people from Malaysia and Singapore have now attended Australian tertiary institutions, gained further knowledge and experience and returned home to work in their communities, thanks to the AIF Nursing Scholarship Fund.

Operating since 1947, it is planned that this programme will continue well into the future as a lasting and living memorial to the contribution made by Malayan communities to AIF members and in particular to prisoners of war between 1942 and 1945.

Each year at least one nurse studies here in Australia thanks to the Fund.

Many great Australians were involved in the war in Malaya. All benefited of those caught up in the fighting were able to survive only due to the help provided by the local communities.

For the memorial to continue its important work, donations are needed. The funding sources left by the AIF members will not be able to fund this important scholarship and goodwill programme into the future without additional contributions.

Over the years a number of appeals have raised much needed funds, but more is now needed.

While the support of sponsors help a great deal, again this will not be enough to ensure the longevity of this living memorial that continues to deliver benefits to so many communities in Malaysia and Singapore.
